Requirement
As part of the electrical connection of a 120MW wind farm comprised of 84 wind turbines, the customer needs to define and submit several studies to the grid operator. The aim of these last is to analyze the impact of the wind farm on the grid and to design consequently its power components.
Among others, the carried-out studies are:
- Load flow study,
- Short circuit study,
- Harmonics study,
- Flickers study (quick voltage changes),
- Design of electrical protection system,
- Component and material withstanding in case of fault,
- Fault ride through,
- Transient stability.

Realization
CAPSIM proposes to carry out the analysis of the wind farm power system by designing a digital model of the network.
On one side, ETAP software is used to simulate load flow, short circuit, harmonics and selectivity studies. On the other side, CAPSIM makes use of EMTP software that is more adapted for fault ride through and transient stability studies.
Results
The electrical connection study has allowed to examine the behavior of the wind farm in several scenarios and to eliminate technical uncertainties linked to the project.
Solutions have been proposed to fix the encountered problems of the customer.
